Handcrafted Furniture: Reclaimed & Premium Wood

Deep Cleaning & Surface Preparation

Every piece begins with a rigorous deep clean. Reclaimed timber carries the history of its past life, but we make sure the building site stays outside. Each board is thoroughly scrubbed by hand to strip away surface dirt, grit, and industrial residue, revealing the beautiful, raw character and unique grain hidden beneath.

Safe & Natural Sanitisation

Once the surface grime is gone, the wood undergoes a deep sanitisation process. We use a targeted blend of tough, grease-cutting agents and natural white vinegar to eliminate any lingering odours or impurities. This ensures every piece is completely hygienic, fresh, and perfectly safe to bring into your living room, hallway, or bedroom.

Controlled Acclimatisation

Wood is a living material, and rushing the process leads to warped furniture. We carefully stack our timber using specialized spacers to allow consistent airflow around every single board. This vital resting period allows the wood to naturally adapt, breathe, and release moisture evenly without twisting or bowing.

Precision Moisture Testing

We don't guess when our wood is ready—we test it. Before a single cut is made, every board is checked with a digital moisture meter. We ensure the timber sits at an optimal indoor moisture level. This crucial step guarantees that when your furniture meets your home, it remains solid, stable, and built to last a lifetime.

Precision Cutting & Framing

This is where the build begins. Every board is measured with a square and precision-cut to size. While most of my pieces feature clean, heavy-duty butt joints for that classic rustic look, I also cut traditional interlocking housing slots—like you see here—for large items that need extra structural support. Every joint is pre-drilled and countersunk so it sits perfectly flush and rock solid.

Multi-Stage Hand Sanding

I take the timber through a thorough four-stage sanding process using my Makita or Dewalt sander. Moving from a heavy P60 grit to clear the rough surface, all the way down to a smooth P150 finish, the process takes time but ensures a quality result. It removes the splinters and dirt while leaving all the unique knots, splits, and history of the scaffold board completely intact.

Assembly & Finishing

After assembly, the magic happens. I apply the protective finish by hand, which instantly brings out the rich depth, cracks, and natural character of the reclaimed wood. Whether it's a beautiful wax, a hard-wearing oil
